Our Mission
At Wollongong Baptist Church, planting churches is both our history and our future. Over our 92 years, we have helped plant Baptist churches in Port Kembla, Corrimal and Dapto. In August 2024, under God, we planted our fourth church in Calderwood Valley. This is all part our mission as a church: ‘To know Christ and make Him known’. We long to see more people saved through the good news of the gospel, and gathered into faithful, Bible-believing, God-glorifying churches.
As Wollongong and the wider Illawarra continues to grow, the words of the Lord Jesus are proven true:
“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”
Matthew 9:37
In God’s kindness, Wollongong Baptist Church has been blessed richly and it is our privilege and responsibility to use these resources to see the lost won for Christ. Planting churches is hard, costly work, but the gospel compels us to give our all for Jesus, who gave His all for us:
“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”
2 Corinthians 5:14-15
Our Goal
Planting churches requires money. Our ‘mother-daughter model’ of church planting requires $200,000 to support a church planter for the first four years, as the new church grows to become financially self-sustaining and independent.
Over the last five years we have been setting aside money in our church budget to build up the Church Planting Fund. To date, we have accrued $100,000. Along with a further $70,000 in generous contributions received from individual church members, we are looking to raise a further $30,000 to see the Calderwood Valley church plant fully funded.
Once this target is met, we will begin to build up funds so that we are well placed to plant another church in God’s timing. Working in partnership with Calderwood Valley Baptist Church, we hope to be able to plant another Christ-centred church in the Illawarra by 2030.
