Our great God has lavished on us the gift that is the gospel of Jesus: God the Son who came to earth to die for our sin, granting us faith, forgiveness, and restored relationship to the Father. While this is the gospel we preach to each other year round, it is a joy to return to the narrative account of Jesus’ earthly life this term as we carry on through chapters 19 to 22 in the book of Matthew.
In these chapters, Jesus approaches and arrives in Jerusalem where he has predicted his death and resurrection will take place. During this time, many approach him with questions or requests, recognising that he is a man of great significance but usually not fully realising the extent of his authority as the Son of God.
Our hope for this series is that we and anyone who encounters Jesus would see that he is the highest authority – the Lord of all! We pray that we would believe this with whole-hearted humility, submitting our lives fully to him, and that we’d be driven to bring his gospel to those who don’t yet know that he is the Lord of their lives.
